The Outlander Tour will take place in Edinburgh's Old Town. The main focus of the tour will be the Jacobite Risings, in particular the final one, which ended with the Battle of Culloden and put an end to clan culture. Although Outlander is a fictional story, the content of both the books and the series is an extraordinary example of what Jacobitism meant and what the consequences were after the last uprising.
The tour will start at the Royal Mile where the beginnings of Jacobitism and its importance in the Outlander books and series is explained. The tour will recount these two narratives in parallel, introducing the real history of Scotland, and explaining its importance and presence in the Outlander story.
We will discuss Gaelic and practise some of the mysterious expressions that Jamie Fraser and other characters use. Both in the book and in the series, Claire realises how strongly the Highland Scots believe in their mythology and customs. Celtic magic is present at all times, so you will be introduced to some Scottish mythology.
The tour will visit iconic stops such as Bakehouse Close, possibly the most sought-after close by Outlander fans, as the alley where Jamie Fraser has his printing shop. It was right here that the protagonists’ reunion was filmed! We will also make a stop to talk about the clandestine activities that the Scots carried out after their defeat in the last rebellion. Outlander fans, you don’t want to miss it!
The tour will take place along Edinburgh's Royal Mile.
