Learn more about the long history of Halloween while exploring the city.
On the Edinburgh Halloween Ghost Walking Tour you will be introduced to Edinburgh’s gruesome past: tales of witches, murderers, and graverobbers await you. Join us in Edinburgh’s Old Town, where we will explore seventeenth-century alleyways and learn about how the Plague affected people living in this city. Travel back with us to a time when beaked doctors wandered Edinburgh’s dark alleyways and see for yourselves what it would have been like to live in plague-ridden 17th century Edinburgh.
When traveling through Edinburgh’s historic Old Town at night, it is not hard to picture its dark past. Hear tales of serial killers witch burnings, executions and torture.
We will also take you to two old graveyards of Edinburgh, where you will hear of a different kind of plague: graverobbing. You would not have wanted to hang around a graveyard in late 18th century Edinburgh – often, the graverobbers were armed, as they could make good money selling corpses to the School of Anatomy.
We will also head across the North Bridge and into the New Town of Edinburgh, where we will show you amazing views across the Old Town and the Castle. Be prepared to be spooked when learning more about Scottish folklore and the Scottish faeries.
Edinburgh is said to be the most haunted city in Europe, but its real history is much darker than you would expect. This city’s past is full of dark tales and mysteries, and has attracted thousands of visitors over the years, so join us in exploring it further!
